Stephen Strasburg has agreed to a new contract with the Washington Nationals that will pay the pitcher $175 million over seven seasons starting in 2017, a person familiar with the negotiations said.

The person spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday night, while Strasburg was pitching against the Detroit Tigers, because the Nationals had not announced the deal.

Strasburg would have been eligible for free agency for the first time after this season. Instead, he stays with the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2009 and shut him down before the playoffs in 2012 to protect his surgically repaired right elbow.

He will go from being paid $7.4 million this season to $25 million annually from 2017 to 2023. The total dollars added equal the sixth-highest in a deal for a major league pitcher. He can opt out and become a free agent after 2019 or 2020.

Strasburg would receive a $1-million performance bonus each year for pitching 180 innings.

Marlins’ J.T. Realmuto has a home run negated

A home run by J.T. Realmuto of the Miami Marlins was negated when he passed Marcell Ozuna after rounding first base against the Milwaukee Brewers, costing the team a run. The Marlins still won, 4-1.

Realmuto’s home run struck the sculpture in center field. Ozuna, who was on first base, misjudged the drive and retreated to first, and Realmuto trotted past him.

First base umpire Mike DiMuro didn’t notice the gaffe, and Ozuna and Realmuto rounded the bases in that order and crossed the plate. But Brewers Manager Craig Counsell challenged the two-run home run and the play was overturned.

Realmuto was credited with a single and a run batted in, and ruled out at second base, and Ozuna scored to give Miami a 1-0 lead.
