Samantha Stosur advances to Southern California Open final
Samantha Stosur, seeded fifth, will play top-seeded Victoria Azarenka on Sunday in the final of the Southern California Open. Stosur defeated 131st-ranked Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano, 7-6 (2), 6-3, in Saturday night’s semifinal.
Earlier in the day Azarenka had eliminated seventh-seeded Ana Ivanovic, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Stosur came back to win the first set after losing the first four games against Razzano, who had upset third-seeded Petra Kvitova, 6-7 (6), 7-5, 7-6 (8), on Friday in a match that lasted 3 hours 35 minutes.
After losing the first-set tiebreak Razzano took a long break and left the court, but she could not rejuvenate herself. Stosur earned a service break in the third game of the second set and stayed n control the rest of the way.
