USC football: Steve Sarkisian hopes fifth time is charm

Share

New USC football Coach Steve Sarkisian is no stranger to the school. This is his fifth stint as a Trojan.

Sarkisian was on USC’s baseball team in the fall of 1992 before transferring to El Camino College.

In 2001 he returned as an offensive football assistant on Pete Carroll’s staff. In January 2002, Sarkisian left USC to become quarterbacks coach at San Diego State, but he came back to USC in March as quarterbacks coach.

After the 2004 season, Sarkisian joined the Oakland Raiders staff as quarterbacks coach.

He returned to USC in 2005 as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach, and was offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008.

“It’s great to be part of the Trojans family again,” Sarkisian said Monday night after meeting with players. “It’s always been a dream of mine to be here.

“Hopefully, this time I don’t have to leave again to come back again. Hopefully, the fifth time is the charm.”
