Skier Mikaela Shiffrin to return from knee injury earlier than expected
Just two months after tearing a ligament in her right knee, skier Mikaela Shiffrin will make a comeback next week, rejoining the World Cup circuit even though it is too late to retain her slalom title.
The Olympic and world champion had aimed at returning in late February or early March but announced on social media that she will enter a Feb. 15 event in Switzerland.
“See ya in a week,” she wrote Monday on Facebook.
The three-time defending slalom champ started the season with two victories but returns with just three events remaining on the schedule.
Asked if it is a gamble to race again at this point, she wrote: “Risk is part of my job. My knee is 100%.”
