Monterey County Great Wine Escape Weekend

Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

Monterey County pops the cork on its annual event, now in its 11th year, and fine food garners nearly as much attention as fine wine. A day of seminars on topics including climate, soil and the farming practices of regional vintners, and Asian food and wine pairings, also features a four-course lunch. More than 20 winemaker dinners will be held at various county restaurants. Self-guided and bus tours will take visitors to tasting rooms at about 15 participating wineries. One of the most popular events is the Grand Finale at Quail Lodge, where 25 local wines will be poured, 10 local restaurants will offer samples, and top-flight chefs (Rick Moonen of rm seafood at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and Kris Morningstar of L.A.’s Blue Velvet) will conduct cooking demonstrations.

When, where: Nov. 9 to 11 at various locations.

Cost: Tickets for single events range from $40 to $250. The Grand Finale, at Quail Lodge, 8205 Valley Greens Drive, Carmel, is $90.
