Lindsay Lohan confirmed for Elizabeth Taylor flick on Lifetime

Lindsay Lohan is all systems go for “Liz & Dick,” the Lifetime TV movie that will see her playing icon Elizabeth Taylor during her whirlwind romance with actor Richard Burton.

As Lohan’s probation for a 2007 DUI ended in late March, the actress was cleared for a work permit in Canada, where the film is set to shoot. And though the actress has been talking for a while now about preparing for the role, she and the Lifetime network on Monday shared the good news: She’s officially ready to put on those white diamonds.

“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said in a statement, Show Tracker reported. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”

“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Lifetime exec Rob Sharenow added. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”

Provocative indeed. After a tumultuous 2011, Lohan kicked off this year with a return to hosting “Saturday Night Live” and some efficiency in her court-ordered community-service duties.

She’ll remain on informal probation for a jewelry theft charge until 2014, but unless proven otherwise Lindsay is a law-abiding citizen. And an employed one. “Liz & Dick” cameras will start rolling in June.
