Dodgers play to wild 11-11 tie with Texas Rangers

AT THE PLATE: Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick and Justin Turner had two hits apiece and raised their spring averages above .360. One of Kendrick’s hits was a three-run homer in the fifth that carried an estimated 440 feet. Alex Guerrero was one for three but that dropped his average to .450. The Dodgers have scored 21 runs in their last two games

ON THE MOUND: A ball call on a close 3-and-2 pitch appeared to rattle Hyun-Jin Ryu, who gave up three runs (two earned) in a wild third inning that also featured two hits, two errors and a pickoff. But that was one of the more successful innings by a Dodgers pitcher. J.P. Howell gave up three runs and three hits with two walks while getting just two outs and David Aardsma allowed two runs and three hits in his one inning. Meanwhile Ramon Troncoso, invited over from the minor league camp, was pressed into service in the ninth and gave up a game-tying two-run single on his second pitch.

EXTRA BASES: The 11 runs scored and 11 runs allowed were both spring highs for the Dodgers. . . . After Ryu was pulled after 46 pitches, he went to the bullpen to throw 19 more. Asked why 19 instead of 20, Ryu smiled and said, “It was supposed to be 15. But I wasn’t counting so it turned out to be 19.” . . . The teams combined for seven errors, four by the Dodgers, allowing the Rangers to score three unearned runs. . . .Tuesday’s draw was the fifth of the spring for the Dodgers, matching last year’s record for most exhibition ties since the team moved west from Brooklyn in 1958.
