Shawne Merriman, the retired San Diego Charger and NFL Pro Bowl linebacker, has relisted his home in San Diego as a $1.049-million short sale.

The Scripps Ranch property has been on and off the market for the last four years and was more recently priced at $1.255 million. Public records show Merriman paid $1.465 million for the home in 2005.

The Mediterranean-style residence, clad in stone accents, features a pool and sweeping canyon views. The single-story floor plan contains a chef’s kitchen, a living room with a fireplace, four bedrooms and five bathrooms in about 4,000 square feet.

Among features is detailed wainscoting and raised ceilings with exposed beams. The master suite, complete with masonry fireplace, has an expanded bathroom with a steam shower.

Merriman, 30, whose nickname is “Lights Out,” played seven seasons in the NFL for the Chargers and Buffalo Bills and led the league with 17 sacks in 2006. More recently he moonlighted as a wrestler and announcer for the WWE.

Jeff Grant of Sand & Sea Investments Inc. is the listing agent.

Earlier this year, Merriman sold a one-bedroom condo in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter for $217,500, less than half what he paid the property in 2007. A Greenbelt, Md., townhouse in Merriman’s name came to market in May at $245,000 and currently shows a status of pending.
