Google launches Keep, a note-taking app for Android devices

Google has released Keep, a convenient note-taking app for Android smartphone and tablet users.

The app, which is available now on Google Play, is designed to make it easy for users to take notes and sync them across their mobile devices and on the Web with Google Drive, the company’s service for storing files in the cloud.

“With Keep you can quickly jot ideas down when you think of them and even include checklists and photos to keep track of what’s important to you,” Google said in a blog post Wednesday announcing the app. “Your notes are safely stored in Google Drive and synced to all your devices so you can always have them at hand.”

Google also said users can leave a voice memo, which Keep will automatically transcribe and turn into text. Additionally, users can choose the color they want for each note they leave on Keep and archive notes they don’t need right away.

And of course, the search engine giant said searching for notes should be quick and easy with the app. There is also a widget that users can quickly access even when their phone is locked.

A video explaining how the app can be used was also released on YouTube and can be seen above.

The Keep app will work with devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or more recent versions of the Android operating system. It can be accessed online at https://drive.google.com/keep. No word on whether Keep will be coming to Apple devices.
