Oakland hosts 2nd Internet Cat Video Festival (and Grumpy Cat, too)

You love them. You mock them. But one thing you can’t do is stop watching them.

Yes, we’re talking about Internet cat videos. Which either represent the pinnacle of human creative achievement, or a sign that the apocalypse is nigh. Or both.

Whichever turns out to be the case, we understand now that cats are the ones running the planet, or at least the Internet. And we have no choice but to follow our new masters wherever they may lead us. Even if it smells like a litterbox.

On Saturday, that place will be Oakland (which does not smell like a litterbox) where our feline overlords are holding their annual Internet Cat Video Festival. The videos are going to be shown on the Great Wall of Oakland, which is basically a really cool name for the side of a building downtown.

The videos will start playing around 8:30 p.m., or around dark. But you’ll want to get down there sooner to mark your territory. Please use a blanket or chair to do that. Hygiene, people.

The good news is that there will be an assortment of cat-related activities starting at 3 p.m., including cat crafts (Cativities!) and music and even a photo booth to get your pic taken with cat celebs Grumpy, Lil Bub and Mr. Bigglesworth. If you have to ask who they are, please don’t even bother showing up.

You can check out some of the videos shown last year. Or see a compilation from the 2012 event in Minneapolis:

Meanwhile, here are some other popular cat videos, whose stars just may turn up in Oakland this weekend. If they feel like it. You know how cats are.
