Bjork getting her own exhibition at Museum of Modern Art

But will it feature the swan dress?

The trend of celebrity-themed exhibitions at major art museums took an indie-hipster twist with the announcement this week that Icelandic pop star Björk will be the subject of a retrospective exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art next year.

“Björk” is scheduled to run March 7 to June 7, 2015 at MoMA and will provide a retrospective look at her career in music, film, costumes, performance and other media. The show is being organized by Klaus Biesenbach, chief curator at large at MoMA and director of MoMA PS1.

The exhibition will also spotlight Björk’s collaborations with filmmakers on her innovative music videos. In the past, she has collaborated with directors including Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham.

In 2000, Björk starred in Lars von Trier’s postmodern musical “Dancer in the Dark,” for which she won the best actress award at the Cannes Film Festival. The following year, she wore her infamous swan gown to the Academy Awards, where she was nominated for writing a song for the movie.

A spokesman for MoMA didn’t say whether the swan dress would be part of the exhibition. He said the museum isn’t elaborating on the information contained in the release sent on Wednesday.

The museum said the exhibition will culminate with a newly commissioned, immersive music and film experience created in collaboration with director Andrew Huang and the firm Autodesk.

MoMA originated the 2009 exhibition devoted to Tim Burton that has toured the world, including a stop at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
