The modern glass and concrete home, which is built into a sandstone hillside ledge, has been featured in numerous architectural magazine spreads as well as in movies, including “The Big Lebowski” and “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” and music videos such as the opening shot of Tracie Spencer’s “It’s All About You (Not About Me).”
The MAK Center for Art and Architecture at the Schindler House is the L.A. home base of the MAK-Austrian Museum of Applied Arts/Contemporary Art in Vienna. It puts on art and architecture exhibitions, as well as lectures, performances, concerts and architecture tours. It also conserves and maintains three historic R.M. Schindler structures in Los Angeles.
But the real prize of the afternoon, for the competitors anyway? The Nicholson-designed, sculptural “MAK Cup,” of course.
