The Old Globe in San Diego will present productions of "Othello" and "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" as part of its 2014 summer Shakespeare season, company leaders announced Friday.

The season will include productions of the musical "Into the Woods" and Ronald Harwood's "Quartet," his 1999 play that was made into a movie last year directed by Dustin Hoffman and starring Maggie Smith.

"Othello" (June 22 to July 27) will be directed by Old Globe artistic director Barry Edelstein; "The Two Gentlemen of Verona" (Aug. 10 to Sept. 14) will be staged by director Mark Lamos.

"Into the Woods" (July 12 to Aug. 10) will be a production from the Fiasco Theater that was presented earlier this year at the McCarter Theatre Center in New Jersey. The popular Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical debuted at the Old Globe in 1986 before opening on Broadway the following year.

The musical is currently being made into a movie, directed by Rob Marshall and featuring Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Amy Adams in the ensemble cast.

"Quartet" (July 25 to Aug. 24) will be directed by Richard Seer. Harwood adapted his play for the big screen last year, with a cast that included Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay and Pauline Collins. The plot follows a group of former opera singers who live in a retirement home.

Harwood won an Oscar in 2003 for his screenplay for Roman Polanski's "The Pianist."

No casting for the Old Globe's summer season has been announced yet.
