TKTS in Times Square reveals its secret: A Fast Pass

Share

Not too long ago, Culture Monster chatted with Theatre Development Fund’s David LeShay about its popular TKTS booth in Times Square turning 40. TDF, he said, would soon be offering a new “mystery service” in addition to the same-day seats on and off-Broadway it’s been offering theater-goers, at a discount, since 1973.

Well, TDF finally revealed its big secret. Keywords? “Avoid.” And “lines.”

TKTS will now offer a Fast Pass that allows booth patrons making a second purchase within seven days to cut to the front of the line. Ticket buyers must have the ticket stub of their original purchase to get the VIP treatment.

TKTS also held a birthday bash in Times Square on Wednesday at which four-time Tony-winner Harvey Fierstein, who wrote the book for “Kinky Boots,” accepted a proclamation from the city on behalf of TKTS.

The nonprofit reports selling more than 58.5 million tickets to date.

Over the past few years it’s introduced tweaks to its service – like its dedicated “Play Only” line for non-musical productions -- that takes the sting out the last-minute admissions frenzy.

Two Broadway shows in a week just got easier.
