Fox Networks taps Biard to succeed Hopkins as distribution chief

Fox Networks, a television unit of 21st Century Fox, has tapped Michael Biard as its new president of distribution.

In that role, Biard will oversee all distribution strategy for Fox’s 45 national and regional networks including Fox Broadcasting and cable channels FX and Fox Sports 1. He will report to Peter Rice, chief executive of Fox Networks Group.

Biard will also oversee distribution efforts for Fox’s online, video-on-demand, mobile and other new platforms.

Biard succeeds Mike Hopkins who left the post to become the new chief executive of Hulu, the online video site that is co-owned by 21st Century Fox, Walt Disney Co. and Comcast Corp.

A former lawyer, Biard first joined Fox in 2000 as director of affiliate business affairs and then began climbing the ranks of Fox’s distribution unit. He most recently was executive vice president of distribution.
