Bart Simpson to cable? Jay-Z to Universal. RIP Annette Funicello.

After the coffee. Before seeing if a palm tree hit my car last night.

The Skinny: Driving during that windstorm Monday night was pretty scary. While the palm trees looked cool swaying in the wind, I didn’t need any hitting me. Also, traffic lights were out all over my neighborhood. Tuesday’s stories include Fox’s threat to take its broadcast signal to cable, and the latest luxury for the rich film buff. Also a look at the effects Annette Funicello and Margaret Thatcher had on redefining women.

Daily Dose: Apparently not everyone is all in on the new MSNBC show “All In with Chris Hayes.” In its first full week in the 8 p.m. time slot, it was down 25% in viewers and almost 15% among adults 25-54 from Ed Schultz. Hayes is losing big-time to Bill O’Reilly on Fox News and Nancy Grace on HLN. On the plus side, he is beating Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Tough talk. Could Fox become a cable channel? That’s the threat that Chase Carey, chief operating officer of Fox parent News Corp. made Monday. Since most cable and satellite companies already pay Fox and other broadcast networks to carry their signal (and then pass the cost on to us), you may be wondering what’s the big deal. Allow me to explain. A new startup service called Aereo that sells broadcast programming via the Internet has the potential to undermine that revenue stream, which is known as “retransmission consent.” And if that happens (a big if), then Fox and other broadcast networks could become cable-only, which means there would no longer be an over-the-air signal and your rabbit ears would be useless. Coverage and analysis from the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Washington Post.

Does popcorn come with it? Do you have a home theater and $35,000 burning a hole in your pocket? If so, you probably also have someone reading this column to you and they’re telling you about this article in the Los Angeles Times about how to watch just-released movies in your own home. So go ahead, take a look and decide whether you really want to stick it to your next-door neighbors by hosting your own screenings. Oh, and be sure and invite the guy whose column your assistant found the story in.

Busy man. Last week, musician and entrepreneur Jay-Z struck a partnership with CAA to create a sports agency. Now he’s signed a deal to move his record label from Sony Music to Universal Music Group. The pact will include releases from Jay-Z. More on the deal from the New York Times and Los Angeles Times. Artists managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation include Rihanna, Shakira, Timbaland and probably a few people with last names too.

And your point was? After some pretty awful ratings, CNN pulled the plug on “The Point,” a roundtable show in which panelsts riffed on the news and pop culture events of the day. It was airing in the 10 p.m. slot. While CNN said the show was just an experiment. More on the demise of “The Point” from the Associated Press. Also, Variety looks at CNN’s latest marketing campaign.
