All was well in Michael Douglas’ world as he walked the red carpet at the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The 68-year-old actor said that after his throat cancer scare, the role of Liberace in Steven Soderbergh’s HBO biopic “Behind the Candelabra” was like being “handed this beautiful pearl.”

That it was well-executed and critically lauded was the cherry on top of the whole experience.

And working with Matt Damon, who plays his volatile lover, was a joy.

“Matt Damon looked me in the eyes at one point and said ‘Let’s do this,’ ” said Douglas. “It was the whole package, the screenplay was so good and everyone nailed it.

“It was what you dream about.”
