Brad Pitt throws Matthew McConaughey a beer: underhand, over heads

Share

Brad Pitt, Matthew McConaughey and Drew Brees were all having a passing good time this last weekend in New Orleans, with Pitt throwing a can of beer across the street to McConaughey one day and Brees passing the football down the street to participants in Louisiana’s 2014 Great Amazing Race on the next.

Pitt, who owns a French Quarter home with fiancee Angelina Jolie, found himself balcony to balcony across the street from the “Dallas Buyers Club” Oscar winner on Saturday and did the neighborly thing: He got his fellow actor a beer.

“Hey, neighbor,” McConaughey shouted across the way after spotting Pitt.

The “World War Z” star chucked what appeared to be a can of NOLA Hopitoulas underhand to McConaughey, who cracked open the craft brew and took a swig. (The beer’s brewer, incidentally, follows sustainable business practices and donates to a Gulf-restoration effort. No wonder Pitt has it in his fridge.)

No surprise: Some ladies on Team McConaughey were the ones who’d first noticed Team Pitt across the way, according to Buzzfeed. The neighborly brewski sailed over the heads of a number of screaming onlookers. Screaming with excitement, that is.

Pitt was in town with Jolie for a Saturday gala to benefit his Make It Right organization, which has been helping to restore housing in New Orlean’s 9th Ward in the wake of 2005’s devastating Hurricane Katrina. Chris Rock was the gala’s emcee and Bruno Mars was part of the entertainment.

Separately, McConaughey, with his wife, Camila Alves, had New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees keeping them company on the balcony Sunday as the two interacted with participants in Louisiana’s kickoff of the Great Amazing Race series. The one-mile races include challenges based on TV’s “The Amazing Race” and are undertaken by teams in each of a number of NFL, NBA and MLB cities over the better part of the year.

The actor’s and the athlete’s foundations partnered on the third annual event to benefit their respective charitable efforts, the Just Keep Livin’ Foundation and the Drew Brees Foundation.

Country star Kenny Chesney played a benefit concert on Saturday as part of that joint effort.
