Britney Spears on risque video: It’s ‘hard to play sexy mom’

Britney Spears’ eye-catching video for “Work, Bitch” was supposed to be a lot racier, but she toned it down — that according to the mother of two.

“Oh, my God, we showed way more skin and did way more stuff for the video than what is actually there,” the pop star said Thursday on Boston’s 103.3 Amp Radio when asked if she was less comfortable ramping up her sex appeal because she’s a mom to two boys, Sean, 8, and Jayden, 7.

“Like, I cut out half the video because I am a mother and because, you know, I have children, and it’s just hard to play sexy mom while you’re being a pop star as well,” she said. “I just have to be true to myself and you know, feel it out when I do stuff.”

The risque video for the empowering anthem sees the 31-year-old turn up the heat as she performs in the desert, dances almost nonstop, stands in a shark-filled tank, cracks a whip, is scantily clad and appears to be in a strip club wielding a riding crop with an S&M-inspired vendetta.

“A lot of sex goes into what I do,” the singer said. “But sometimes I would like to bring it back to the old days when there was like one outfit through the whole video, and you’re dancing the whole video, and there’s like not that much sex stuff going on,” she added. “It’s about the dance and it’s about being old-school. It’s like keeping it real and just making it about the dance. I’d love to do a video like that.”

The visual offering also serves as a billboard for her upcoming two-year residency at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood, which kicks off Dec. 27. Her eighth album also happens to drop just before that, on Dec. 3.

“I’m such a cozy person, I love being in my house, but I feel like I’m going to go a little crazy if I stay in my house too much, if I just hang out and do nothing,” she added. “I kinda like to perform — well not kinda — I really like to perform and I like to do shows. It’s exciting and it’s great to express yourself so I think it’s fun.”
