Rihanna shows up in court for Chris Brown; Geragos goes off after

When Chris Brown showed up in court on Wednesday, he had a date with him: Rihanna.

Ironic, of course, as Brown was showing up for the regular probation status update hearing because of beating Rihanna in the face almost exactly four years ago. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in June 2009 and has been on probation ever since.

Rihanna was conservatively dressed, relatively speaking, and sitting in the front row, according to L.A. Now. The two left court arm in arm, with Brown looking dejected and Rihanna trying to cheer him up, TMZ said.

What makes this status hearing different than the many that have come before and gone off without a hitch is it came one day after the L.A. district attorney’s office filed a motion asking that the singer be required to finish, or perhaps redo, his 1,440 hours of community service in Los Angeles. The motion detailed inconsistencies in record-keeping and essentially accused Brown of faking service performed in Virginia, where he maintains his primary residence and had been allowed to do his hours.

“I’m a little disturbed how the district attorney handled this,” Brown attorney Mark Geragos said in court. “It could have been handled much differently.”

Also different about this hearing: Geragos held a scathing press conference afterward (streamed live on TMZ), in which he accused the D.A.’s office of libeling the Richmond police chief and falsifying evidence, and said he’s “never ever had a client who’s been tortured on probation by the D.A.’s office like Chris Brown has.”

He said his camp has evidence that Brown performed all community service as reported and slammed the press for running with the D.A.’s office’s version of events.

Judge James Brandlin, who kept the performer on probation, said he needed more time to review all the evidence in the motion, L.A. Now reported. He ordered Brown to report to his probation officer within 48 hours and provide any documentation he had related to his community service. Another hearing was scheduled for April 5.

In other Breezy news comes word via Gossip Cop that a supposed “enough is enough” Instagram rant attributed to the singer was actually a fake. The “ChrisRealBrown” account where the rant was posted does not belong to Brown, his rep said.
