‘American Horror Story’: Jessica Lange on the joys of the asylum

“American Horror Story: Asylum” premieres Wednesday, and fans of the delirious, sexy and flat-out frightening series aren’t the only ones rejoicing.

The show’s star, Jessica Lange, is happy to climb into the habit of Sister Jude -- the repressed, iron-fisted honcho at fictional mental hospital Briarcliff Manor.

Though Lange nabbed a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her portrayal of season one’s Constance Langdon, “Asylum” is a complete reboot. It’s set mostly in 1964, and the ensemble has been cast in brand new roles.

Though the campy Constance was a hit for the actress, she says she’s ready for a new challenge.

“I feel like I did it,” Lange told the Ministry at Saturday’s Hollywood premiere for “Asylum.”

“There are some characters in my long career that I still think about from time to time, and Constance was a wonderful experience, but I did it.”

Sister Jude will be “a whole new experience, and especially at a different time for women” she said.

Lange will be joined by returning cast Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Zachary Quinto, Frances Conroy and last season’s patriarch, Dylan McDermott.
