Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s apparently amicable split has become a contentious blame game in the media and the makings of a pretty great country song down the line.

The country music superstars publicized their divorce on Monday after four years of marriage, and reports have slung cheating rumors in both directions since.

On Tuesday, reports claimed that Lambert, 31, cheated on Shelton, 39, twice and named country singer Chris Young as one of the misters — though TMZ said that Young didn’t factor into the final decision to split, another guy who wasn’t a singer did.

The “Aw Naw” singer, who has toured with the Grammy-winning Lambert, took to Twitter on Tuesday to clear his name.

“I don’t normally address gossip but in this case I will,” Young wrote. “My name has been mentioned as a contributing factor in Blake and Miranda’s divorce. That is totally FALSE. They are both my friends and I would not betray that friendship. Just wanted to clear that up. Love you guys. -CY”

On Wednesday, TMZ reported that Lambert was furious that Shelton had accused her of cheating and she and the singer both denied the allegation.

The website claimed that the “Sangria” singer was actually the cheater, not Lambert, saying that “The Voice” mentor strayed with a famous country singer and that his camp was unscrupulous and began mud-slinging before the divorce was finalized.

Sources told E! News that the couple had trust issues — infidelity rumors mixed with spending large amounts of time apart put stress on the marriage.

The messy back-and-forth has played out only on gossip sites. Neither recording artist has addressed the rumors beyond their initial joint statement from Monday in which they asked for “privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

“This is not the future we envisioned,” their statement said. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues.”

However, the duo who have dueted did wipe traces of the other from their social media accounts, changing profile pictures, avatars and background images.

Shelton and Lambert have no children together and reportedly had a prenuptial agreement in place that helped expedite their divorce proceedings in Oklahoma, where Shelton keeps a ranch.
