Rupert Everett not down with the idea of two gay parents

Rupert Everett has shared his idea of the worst thing ever, and it’s — having gay parents?

Not that the openly gay actor has gay parents. He actually has a mom who’s met his boyfriend but also “still wishes I had a wife and kids,” he said.

“She thinks children need a father and a mother and I agree with her,” Everett told Britain’s Sunday Times Magazine (via the Telegraph). “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads.”

Lea Michele’s “Glee” gal Rachel Berry would almost certainly disagree. Not to mention Neil Patrick Harris. Or Elton John. Or GLAAD.

“Since Everett shared his outdated opinion, gay parents, as well as their friends and families, have voiced overwhelming disappointment,” said Herndon Graddick, GLAAD’s president. “Children aren’t hurt when raised by caring gay parents, but they are when uninformed people in the public eye insult their families.”

Not that Everett’s likely to care much about what anybody thinks.

“I’m not speaking on behalf of the gay community,” he told the magazine. “In fact, I don’t feel like I’m part of any ‘community.’ The only community I belong to is humanity and we’ve got too many children on the planet, so it’s good not to have more.”

Even if his mom says — as she did — that she thinks he’d be a great dad.
