Seth Meyers explains how he broke his ‘million-dollar nose’

Seth Meyers broke his “million-dollar nose” over the weekend and lived to tell the illustrated tale.

The large-beaked “Late Night” host shared the gruesome details Monday night with the help of visual aids after revealing what he looked like before his makeup artist got to him.

“This is what my face looks like without makeup. There’s a big ol’ shiner right there,” Meyers said, holding up a mug shot of his bruised face and sounding just a little bit nasal.

It all went down when the former “SNL” writer reunited with college friends in Boulder, Colo., to draft their fantasy football teams. Before they drafted, they decided to play a beloved childhood sport. No, not football.

“We decided it would be really fun, since we’ve known each other since we were in college, we should play street hockey,” the 40-year-old said. “So we went out to a Sports Authority and we got a bunch of little hockey sticks and hockey nets and we played street hockey on a suburban street. So, we’re talking the kind of hockey where when a car came, you would have to go, ‘Car!’ and take the nets and clear the street.”

“We were 40-year-old men having the time of our lives playing street hockey,” the Emmy Awards host explained.

“We were playing our last game and ... I gave a speech like you would give in a sports movie. I said, ‘Gentlemen, we’re at the age now where this is likely the last time we’re ever going to play street hockey, so leave it all out on the pavement.

“‘The rest of your life don’t regret anything about this last game because you’ll have to live with it for the rest of your life.’ Cut to 30 seconds later, a friend smashes me in the nose with his stick and I hit the ground and immediately, immediately, knew that my nose was broken, and said so -- my friends couldn’t hear me because they were all laughing. So much laughter. So much, as much laughter as blood!”

Then he held up a photo of the fresh wound: “So, I ran inside, it was bad. My nose was going a completely different direction.”

Of course, “51 percent” of his friends were concerned about how he was doing and the other “49 percent” were worried that the injury would delay the draft that was set to take place after the game. Some friends, huh?

Meyers went to the emergency room and, thankfully, his friend knew an ER doctor, whom he called en route.

“He calls this doctor, the doctor doesn’t know that everyone can hear him [over Bluetooth], and he says, ‘Hey, man, thanks for taking my call. I was playing street hockey with my friends and my friend Seth Meyers broke his nose.’ And this guy, this doctor, his reaction to that was ‘Oh, the million-dollar nose,‘” Meyers said.

“My two reactions to that: One, I was thinking that’s not a level of concern commensurate with what I was going through. And two, I was a little flattered. Yeah, I’ll take a million-dollar nose.”

The doctor eventually laid out Meyers’ three options, and they decided to pop it back in place “even with the giant noise, the super loud noise” it would make.

“And I realized, I always had a crooked nose so he was readjusting both what the hockey stick had done, and also, God’s work. So there was a double crack for what he was doing.”
