Concept art for ‘Ant-Man’s’ original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, revealed

While audiences only got a glimpse of original Wasp Janet van Dyne through flashbacks in “Ant-Man,” her story (and fate) were central aspects of the Marvel film.

Fans can now take a close look at the design for Janet’s Wasp suit thanks to Marvel concept artist Andy Park.

Those who have seen “Ant-Man” will remember that Janet, who fought alongside her husband Hank Pym as a superhero duo armed with shrinking suits, was lost to the “Quantum Realm” after sacrficing herself to disable a missile.

Hank never recovered from the loss, as evidenced by his relationship with his daughter, Hope -- he refuses to consider Hope as the most qualified to use his remaining Ant-Man suit because he does not wish to see her potentially suffer the same fate as his wife.

Of course, “Ant-Man” does tease audiences that they will get to see Hope carry on her mother’s legacy in an updated version of the Wasp suit some time in the future. The film also leaves Janet’s fate open-ended, so perhaps fans have not seen the last of the original Wasp either.

For now, we don’t really know when we’ll next see any Wasp incarnation, but we do know Ant-Man will make an appearance in 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.”
