If Kristen Stewart and Rupert Sanders never had sex, should Robert Pattinson and Liberty Ross still be devastated by their infidelity?

While headlines have called Stewart and Sanders’ involvement a “fling” or an “affair,” pictures obtained by Us Weekly show only embraces, kisses and the actress leaning back in the driver’s seat of her car as her “Snow White and the Hunstman” director busies himself “kissing her entire body.”

Sanders’ father, Michael, is in the no-big-deal camp.

“From what I gather nothing really happened and it is all a lot of fuss about nothing. I should imagine it was something very brief,” he told People, which had the exclusives on apologies from his son and KStew.

“She is a very pretty girl and when you work that closely with someone for so long, sometimes things happen.”

And Gossip Cop pointed out that its sources swore the 22-year-old and 41-year-old never had sex.

But if you’re planning to propose, as Pattinson reportedly was considering, does it really matter if your beloved didn’t actually go all the way with another guy? Especially when things that she did do are captured in pictures distributed worldwide?

Stewart may be trying to make things right privately with Ross, Sanders’ wife, sending her a letter instead of including her in Wednesday’s public mea culpa.

“Kristen feels she made a terribly naive mistake and will do anything to make amends. The fact that Liberty and Rupert have two kids has now dawned on her and she feels awful for what she did,” a source told Radar Online.

Perhaps the kids never came up as Sanders and Stewart chatted over dinner on May 15 in Germany, the day after their movie’s London premiere and before its May 16 Berlin debut. Hey, KStew did say she didn’t really get to know Charlize Theron until they were doing press for the movie, which opened June 1 in the U.S., so maybe she was just in a friendly frame of mind -- that happened to last more than six weeks after the gang was done with those promotional obligations.

But maybe KStew and RPattz will patch things up. After all, President Clinton swore he did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky, and he and Hillary Clinton wound up staying together in the long run.

Should Rob let Kristen go, or forgive her “momentary indiscretion”? Let us know in comments.
