Melissa McCarthy: ‘I’m a walking human patchwork of all the funny women I have loved’

Melissa McCarthy made a grand appearance to accept the MTV Comedic Genius Award: the crowd carried her up to the stage. On both feet, she moved to hug Kevin Hart and the golden popcorn award flew out of her hand onto the ground. A couple kernels popped off. She remarked that she would trade hers with Kevin's, who won the Comedic Genius Award last year.

"I may be the first woman to receive this award, but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it. I'm a walking human patchwork of all the funny women I have loved and studied over the years," the actress said, thanking many of those women like Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, and Lucille Ball.

McCarthy said her mother taught her to "lovingly go for the kill." And that she has!
