‘Furious 7,’ ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Inside Out’ are among the nominees for visual effects awards

“Furious 7,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Bridge of Spies” and “The Revenant” are among the nominees for the Visual Effects Society’s 14th VES Awards that honor outstanding visual effects and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games, as well as VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists.

Nominees announced Tuesday for outstanding visual effects in a photoreal feature are “Furious 7,” “San Andreas,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “The Martian”

In contention for outstanding supporting visual effects in a photoreal feature are “In the Heart of the Sea,” “Bridge of Spies,” “The Walk,” “Everest” and “The Revenant.”

Vying for outstanding visual effects in an animated feature are “The Peanuts Movie,” “Inside Out,” “Anomalisa,” “Hotel Transylvania 2” and “The Good Dinosaur.”

Nominees for outstanding animated performance in a photoreal feature are Maz in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the Bear in “The Revenant,” Hulk in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and Chappie in “Chappie.”

In contention for animated performance in an animated feature are Snoopy in “The Peanuts Movie,” Charlie Brown in “The Peanuts Movie,” Joy in “Inside Out” and Spot in “The Good Dinosaur.”

As previously announced, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to director Ridley Scott and the Visionary Award recipient is the visual futurist and conceptual artist Syd Mead.

The winners will be announced Feb. 2 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
