“Mad Men,” which ended its run in May, is receiving an AFI Special Award. It has won five AFI Awards, more than any TV program in the awards’ history.

“Since AFI’s founding in the White House Rose Garden 50 years ago, its mandate has been to celebrate our nation’s storytellers,” Bob Gazzale, AFI president and chief executive, said in a statement Wednesday. “This is the goal of the AFI Awards -- to bring together our community as colleagues, not competitors, and to shine a proper light on their collective efforts to entertain and enlighten the world.”

The awards will be presented at a private luncheon on Jan. 8
