The French duo Daft Punk won the Grammy for pop duo/group performance for its single “Get Lucky” at the 56th Grammy Awards on Sunday.
The single is off the band’s fourth studio LP, “Random Access Memories,” This is Daft Punk’s third Grammy win, after winning for electronic/dance album in 2007 and dance recording in 2008.
The album was a marked departure for the act, largely abandoning the sample-based production of previous albums in favor of live-band performances. The album and single were huge commercial successes, with the LP selling more than 300,000 copies its first week and debuting atop the Billboard 200.
Daft Punk beat pop singers Pink and Rihanna, neo-R&B singer Robin Thicke, and Justin Timberlake & Jay Z.
The Grammys are determined by about 13,000 voting members. The eligibility period for nominated recordings was Oct. 1, 2012, to Sept. 30, 2013. The 56th awards are being held at the Staples Center and telecast on CBS. They are broadcast live except for viewers on the West Coast.
