Capitol Studios will open to public May 21-22 for 60th anniversary showcase

Music fans will get a rare opportunity to go inside the historic recording studios used by Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Oasis and countless other high-profile musicians over the past 60 years this weekend in Hollywood.

Capitol Studios, the music-creation division housed at the Capitol Records Tower, will open to the public Saturday and Sunday to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fabled operation.

The studio opened Feb. 22, 1956, and Sinatra recorded the first of thousands of sessions conducted there in the ensuing six decades.

General admission tickets costing $50 will allow access to Capitol’s studios A, B and C, as well as use of a photo booth and access to the WAX Record Fair also being held over the weekend in the Capitol parking lot. The fair will encompass vinyl for sale plus panel discussions with artists as well as music industry pros.

For $100, a VIP ticket also will include several other activities, such as interactive studio experiences, demonstrations of high-definition and surround-sound recordings, a vinyl-cutting demonstration, plus studio tours, a photo booth and record fair admission. As of press time, limited VIP tickets remained for Sunday.

Proceeds from the ticket sales help Capitol Studios support music and education programs including Cal Arts and Grammy in the Schools.

For record collectors who are interested only in perusing thousands of new and used vinyl records at the WAX Record Fair, admission to that event is $10.
