Satisfaction? Mick Jagger’s newborn son is named Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger

Share

We kid you not: Rolling Stones’ singer Mick Jagger and his girlfriend, American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, have named their 8-day-old son Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger.

That’s a mouthful for anyone, let alone a newborn, which is why odds are good that — once he’s able to speak — young Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger might prefer to go by “Dev” or “Octa” or, maybe, “Octa Dev.”

The announcement of the name of Jagger’s eighth child came Friday via the Instagram page of Jagger’s 32-year-old daughter, Elizabeth. She posted a photo of young Dev, along with the caption: “My beautiful baby brother Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger.”

What’s the significance of the name? Good question!

Basil was the name Jagger’s late father. Octavian is the Latin word for “born eighth.”

As for the inspiration Deveraux, your guess is as good as our guess. Welsh rugby player John Deveraux? Deceased U.S. congressman and Marine Corps general James Deveraux?

Mick Jagger, 73, and Hamrick, 29, met in 2014, the year before the Stones opened their 2015 Zip Code tour with a triumphant concert at San Diego’s Petco Park.

The Stones’ most recent California performances were Oct. 7 and 15 at the Desert Trip festival in Indio. Both featured San Diego saxophonist Karl Denson. He joined the legendary English band in late 2014, following the death of longtime Stones sax man Bobby Keys.
