Quick Takes: Jenni Rivera gets the last say

Some final words from the late Mexican American singer and TV star Jenni Rivera will be out this summer.

Atria Books announced Monday it’s publishing a memoir by the multimillion-selling artist, who died in a plane crash in December at age 43. “Unbreakable,” coming out simultaneously in English and Spanish, is scheduled for July and has been authorized by Rivera’s family.

Rivera had worked on “Unbreakable” for several years and completed it before her death, Atria spokesman Paul Olsewski said. She had been in talks with Atria, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, since 2011.

Sale of letters by Lennon’s killer

Letters from John Lennon’s killer detailing his obsession with the novel “The Catcher in the Rye” to the police officer who arrested him went on sale Monday through a Los Angeles auction house.

The four missives from Mark David Chapman to Stephen Spiro are for sale through Moments in Time, which specializes in historical documents and rare autographs, at a fixed price of $75,000, auction house owner Gary Zimet said.

Zimet is selling the letters on behalf of Spiro, who arrested Chapman on Dec. 8, 1980, shortly after he shot Lennon outside the Dakota, the ex-Beatle’s Manhattan apartment building.

The letters were written over several months in 1983, after Chapman had pleaded guilty and been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

An injury ended Spiro’s job as a New York police officer in 1983. He said he decided to sell them in part to pay off hefty medical bills from cancer and other illnesses and because he thought they should be in the public domain.

Illness silences Dion in Vegas

Singer Celine Dion is canceling a week of shows in Las Vegas to kick a sinus infection.

The pop star’s promoter, AEG Live, said that she would not perform shows that had been planned at Caesars Palace from Tuesday through Friday.

AEG said Dion recovered from the flu last week, but then developed sinusitis. Her doctor prescribed antibiotics and advised her to rest for a full week.

The Sin City darling is expected to resume performing at the casino on the Las Vegas Strip on Feb. 26. Tickets for the canceled shows will be refunded.

Meatless March performance

If meat is murder, as Morrissey famously proclaimed during his tenure as the Smiths’ frontman, then Staples Center will be homicide-free when the singer plays his sold-out headline gig on March 1.

Promoters for the show announced Monday that the downtown arena’s food service will go all-vegetarian the night of his concert.

Morrissey, a longtime vegan and outspoken animal rights activist, requested that the venue’s McDonald’s outlets be shuttered for the night, and for all other food vendors to cease the sale of any meat-based concessions.

The venue and the concert’s promoter, Goldenvoice, for the first time in their history, agreed. Not even fellow vegan and activist Paul McCartney could pull that off at Staples, despite a similar request for vegetarian vending during his own show there.

In a statement, Morrissey said that “I don’t look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals.”

‘ET’ news gig for pop king’s son

Since their heart-wrenching appearance at Michael Jackson’s funeral in 2009, the singer’s three children have largely remained out of the media glare.

Now, almost four years later, one of the music icon’s sons has decided to step into the spotlight. Prince Michael Jackson, 16 — older brother to Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10 — has signed on to be a guest correspondent for the celebrity news show “Entertainment Tonight.”

His first assignment, interviewing the director and stars of the upcoming film “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” will air in segments on the program throughout the remainder of the week.

Jackson got the gig in part due to Brooke Anderson, one of “ET’s” correspondents. The television host said she and the teenager shared a “mutual connection,” and she has been itching to do something with Jackson since she met him.

“I thought him interviewing people from ‘Oz’ would be great because his dad was in ‘The Wiz,’ he’s a fan of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and he wants to get into producing and directing,” Anderson said in a phone interview Monday evening. The timing also worked out well for the high school student, who did filming over the long holiday weekend when classes were not in session.

To help him prepare for the joint interview with director Sam Raimi and actors James Franco and Zach Braff, Anderson said she sat with Jackson and went over potential questions. She also gave him some tips on how to stay relaxed in front of the camera.
