The CW has given an early vote of confidence to two freshman series, with “The Flash” and “Jane the Virgin” getting full-season orders on Tuesday.

A superhero thriller, “The Flash” is CW’s biggest hit in years. The premiere was watched by 6.1 million total viewers including live viewing plus delayed watching up to three days later, according to Nielsen. Among adults ages 18 to 49, “The Flash’s” premiere was the best performer since “The Vampire Diaries” premiered five years ago.

“Jane the Virgin,” a romantic comedy about a young woman who accidentally becomes pregnant during a medical mix-up, is among the best-reviewed new series this fall. The show has a score of 80 (out of 100) on the review aggregation site Metacritic, the highest number of any new broadcast series on a major network.

“Over the past three seasons, we have made it our mission to grow and to broaden out our audience, and to keep raising the bar with the quality and impact of our new shows, and ‘The Flash’ and ‘Jane’ have both exceeded our expectations on all counts,” wrote CW chief Mark Pedowitz in a statement.
