Anna Kendrick and Conan O’Brien turn ‘Conan’ into a musical

Share

Anna Kendrick was a guest on “Conan” on Thursday night, promoting her upcoming musical film “The Last Five Years.” But rather than the usual celeb-and-host reparte, she and Conan O’Brien decided to show rather than tell.

In other words, they turned “Conan” into a musical. Just for a short time.

Two things we learned: Conan is a surprisingly decent singer. And Andy Richter ... is not.

No surprise, Kendrick blew them both out of the water.

“Wouldn’t it be wonderful, if like were like a musical / And we sang to each other all day long?” Conan sang.

“Yes, it would be wonderful if life were like a musical and everything we said was all in song,” Kendrick countered.

O’Brien is no stranger to musicals, as can be evidenced by his famous “Simpsons” episode “Marge Vs. the Monorail,” which featured “The Monorail Song,” a spoof of “The Music Man.” Phil Hartman performed the song on the series, but O’Brien performed it live last year at the “Simpsons” special performance at the Hollywood Bowl.

Even with one great singer and one half-decent singer, it just makes us realize how much better celebrity interviews would be if they were conducted in song.
