The androids don't need to be paranoid: Fox's "Almost Human" got off to a fine start in the ratings on Sunday night.
The latest from super-producer J.J. Abrams - a buddy-cop concept where androids are paired with humans to bust crimes - delivered 9.1 million total viewers in a special roll-out, according to Nielsen. Fox is airing the premiere in two parts, with the second half coming on Monday, where it will usually air.
In the key category of adults aged 18 to 49, "Almost Human" was easily the top-rated program of the night, with a 3.1 rating/8 share. That easily marched past ABC's fantasy "Once Upon a Time" (1.9 rating/5 share).
"Almost Human" might have done even better but for a very hectic football schedule on Sunday night. In many markets, an NFL overrun on Fox led right into the show - and then many fans presumably departed once that game was over to catch NBC's Chiefs-Broncos match-up for the rest of the night.
