KNBC-TV Channel 4 continues to be an awards force -- racking up 18 nominations for the 65th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards. But Univision owned-and-operated station KMEX is showing its muscle, coming in at a close second.

The nominations were announced early Thursday morning. NBC 4, which walked away with seven trophies last year, is up for awards in categories that include investigative reporting and hard news reporting, as well as the highly competitive newscast categories.

Its Spanish-language competitor, KMEX, was recognized for its Rose Parade coverage (live special events), investigative reporting and daily evening newscast (“Noticias A Las Once” / News at 11) -- among others. That’s not the only feather in its cap. Univision will be the recipient of the Los Angeles Area Governors Award on behalf of the multi-platform education initiative “Educate, Es El Momento” (Educate Yourself, The Moment is Now).

Not to be ignored, KTLA 5 walked away with 13 nominations and ABC 7 and KCET tied with 12. CBS 2 scored nine nominations.

The winners will be announced Aug. 3 at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood.

A full list of the nominations can be found on the Emmys website.
