Monica Lewinsky has made another step to take control of her public image by sitting down for her first interview since 2003. The interview was for the upcoming National Geographic Channel special “The ‘90s: The Last Great Decade,” which will lump her in with such ‘90s figures as Shannen Doherty, Matthew Perry and Vanilla Ice.

“Today” ran clips from the interview on Tuesday morning, which featured Lewinsky saying, “I was a virgin to humiliation of that level, until that day.”

She’s referring to the day the 445-page Starr Report was published, allowing the public to read intimate details of her White House tryst with President Clinton. Their affair, which occurred between November 1995 and March 1997, led to impeachment hearings against the president.

Lewinsky has kept a low profile for most of the last decade, but resurfaced earlier this year to write an essay in the May issue of Vanity Fair magazine about the ongoing effect the Clinton affair has had on her life.

“I was the most humiliated woman in the world,” Lewinsky says on the special.

The program, which premieres on Sunday, and airs in three parts, also features interviews with Brian Williams, Vanilla Ice, Ice Cube, James Van Der Beek, Susan Sarandon, Roseanne Barr, Shannen Doherty, Courtney Love and Rob Lowe, among others, as it looks back on the pop culture and historical events of the final decade of the 20th century.

As NBC anchor Craig Melvin told “Today” hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, it appears that Lewinsky is deliberately putting herself back out in the limelight in order to take back control of her life.
