Paris Haute Couture: Butterflies and Dita Von Teese at Gaultier

Share

Burlesque queen Dita Von Teese emerged as a butterfly Wednesday, strutting down the runway for the closing segment of Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring/summer 2014 haute couture show.

What better ending could there be for a bright and lively collection inspired by showgirls and butterflies than a world-famous stripper in a bustier with wings? Butterfly shapes adorned bustiers, dresses and gowns, which were often paired with plumed headdresses reminiscent of the Moulin Rouge.

Gaultier’s chic signature black suits, paired with skirts or slacks started the parade. Nor did he forget to include a few of his classic, seriously-structured bras.

Faithful Gaultier fan Catherine Deneuve watched from the first row, as did Spanish actress Paz Vega, fashion muse Farida Khelfa, Senegalese actress Aissa Maiga, models Audrey Marnay and Tanya Dzishileva, and singers Amanda Lear and Arielle Dombasle.
