It’s almost a given these days that as an animated film hits the multiplex, all manner of movie-themed merchandise will be hitting retail. Pixar’s “Inside Out” is no exception, even though what’s being channeled into everything from scented pens to drapes is raw emotion – as in the characters of Anger, Sadness, Joy, Fear and Disgust crowding the controls in the Pixar film. Below are a trio of the items that left us feeling a particular emotion of our own: mirth.
Disney Consumer Products (Walt Disney Company owns Pixar) and footwear maker Ugg have been on a bit of a licensing streak lately (what with last month's announcement of the Darth Vader boots and all), and the “Inside Out” collection includes a range of shoes from a yellow and blue glitter zip-up high-top sneaker with a pink bow and the words “Love it I!!!” on the rubber outsole (a nod to Joy) to a blue suede and exploded houndstooth check lace-up low-top with Fear’s mantra “Risk is overrated” written on the outsole. Leave it to Hot Topic to serve up a tank top and hot pants set emblazoned with the “Inside Out” characters (listed in junior sizes, mind you), never mind that the black contrast piping on the super skimpy white “hot pants” make them look for all the world like the kind of tighty-whitey underpants worn by grade-school boys. OK, they’re technically described as “hot beverage mugs,” but let’s be honest, if you’re facing the morning with a steaming mug of Anger in your hand, it’s probably because you haven’t had caffeine yet. (character mugs, $12.95, available at Disney stores and disneystore.com)
