New York Fashion Week spring 2014: Monique Lhuillier review
NEW YORK — Not surprisingly, red-carpet favorite Monique Lhuillier drew a crowd of front-row lovelies to her show Saturday night at New York Fashion Week, including Ashley Madekwe, Emmy Rossum, Perry Reeves, Maggie Grace, Rose McGowan and Stacy Keibler.
The inspiration: “Sheer elegance,” according to the show notes, with “delicately balanced textures, innovative layering and sophisticated ease.”
The look: A renewed emphasis on daywear, with short-sleeve lace tops, some with jeweled collars, multicolored lace pencil skirts and cloque pants in hothouse shades of coral, orchid, fuchsia and poppy red; dresses with high-low hems, including one short-sleeve style in nude tulle dotted with multicolored embroidered blossoms; rose gold Deco embroidered tulle tunic and gown ensembles; breezy ball gowns in floating solid-color chiffons or brush-stroke florals.
The verdict: This felt like a deep exhale for the L.A.-based designer. It was one of her best collections to date, full of the kind of relaxed glamour that Californians do best.
