New York Fashion Week: Versus Versace’s shoppable runway show

Share

It was a match made in fashion heaven. Guest designer Anthony Vaccarello showed his super sexy vision of the Versus Versace collection Sunday night at New York Fashion Week, and the pieces are already shoppable at VersusVersace.com.

How’s that for instant gratification?

Vaccarello remixed the codes of the storied Italian fashion house — Medusa heads, baroque prints, black leather and gold hardware — showing a sexy lineup of evening wear and separates with a rock ‘n’ roll vibe.

He even paid homage to Versace’s famous safety pin dress, worn by Elizabeth Hurley in 1994, showing a similar black mini dress with strategic slashes and gold hardware with lion’s head motifs ($1,150).

Other standout pieces include a glam rock metallic gold blazer ($2,150), a sheer top with a Roman key motif ($725), a tailored strapless jumpsuit ($995) and an oversized black-and-white lion head print shirt.

Donatella Versace took a bow with Vaccarello, a rising star on the international fashion scene who is a Belgian of Italian descent. And Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Nina Dobrev caught the action from the seats.

It’s been quite a run for Versace, who grabbed headlines last week for designing Angelina Jolie’s wedding gown and veil.

The more affordable Versus Versace collection, a diffusion line, is created by a rotating cast of guest designers, which have included Christopher Kane and the pop singer M.I.A.
