Share

As one of the first Latino actors to appear as a series regular in a popular television series, Henry Darrow may be best remembered for his role as Manolito Montoya in the 1960s western “The High Chaparral,” as well as his countless incarnations of Zorro. He will be discussing his life and career as penned in his recent memoir, “Lightning in the Bottle” at the Autry National Center in Griffith Park on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of Latino Heritage month.

The New York City-born Puerto Rican American actor won a daytime Emmy for his work on the soap “Santa Barbara” and has appeared in “Bonanza,” “Gunsmoke” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. (He also portrayed “Don Quixote” author Miguel de Cervantes on stage at the El Portal Circle Theater.) Episodes of “The High Chaparral” and “Zorro” will be screening on Sunday and Saturday at the Autry.

Emma Straub’s “Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures” is a fictional but familiar story of an actress from the Midwest who arrives in Hollywood with big dreams of fame and fortune. Straub, whose collection of stories on intimate relationships, “Other People We Married,” was published in February, will be discussing her new book at Skylight Books on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
