Zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika, divided
3/4 teaspoon cayenne powder, divided
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder, divided
1 teaspoon onion powder, divided
Tabasco, or other vinegar-based hot sauce
2 cups buttermilk, more if needed
2 cups flour
1 cup cornstarch
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
