A Prairie-style design -- drawn in 1909 and built the following year -- Boyle's represents Wright's 15-year flirtation with low-lying residences evocative of the flat horizons of the Midwest, hence their name.
Most Angelenos, however, more quickly associate Wright with textile-block, Mayan-esque residences, such as the Hollyhock House in Barnsdall Park, which is closed for renovations.
If you wish to experience a Wright home of this vintage, you may visit the Ennis Brown house, built in 1924. Located above the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Los Feliz Boulevard, at 2655 Glendower Ave. in Los Feliz, it can be toured by reservations only. For more information, call (323) 660-0607.
