Rag & Bone opens Southern California flagship

Rag & Bone, the men’s and women’s fashion line created by British CFDA-winners David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, opened its first Los Angeles-area flagship last week. The two-story, approximately 9,000-square-foot space is at 8533 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

EVENTS

Fashion designer John Varvatos is scheduled to make an appearance at 6 p.m. Thursday to celebrate the opening of his shop-in-shop at Bloomingdale’s Century City. The evening will also include a performance by rock band Alberta Cross. Ten percent of sales proceeds from the event, which is free and open to the public, are to go to 826LA, a nonprofit that works to improve writing skills in students ages 6 to 18. The event will be in the men’s section on the first floor of the store at 10250 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.

Colombian handbag designer Nancy Gonzalez will be on hand from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to debut her fall collection at Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills. The luxury bags are handcrafted in Colombia incorporating precious skins and bold colors. Neiman Marcus is at 9700 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills.

PROMOTIONS

More than 120 stores and restaurants at South Coast Plaza are participating in a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Starting Thursday and running through Oct. 17, shoppers can purchase a $60 Angelitos Card entitling them to 20% discounts on most merchandise at participating stores. Proceeds from the card sales go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. South Coast Plaza is at 3333 Bristol St., Costa Mesa.

National Spa Week’s fall promotion, offering full-service treatments that typically run $100-$500 for just $50, is scheduled Monday, Oct. 15, through Oct. 21. Find participating spas at SpaWeek.com.

Monday is also the Second Annual Sustainable Beauty Day, sponsored by Davines and the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Participating salons will offer clients free haircuts and styling services, in exchange for a $15 suggested minimum donation to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. Last year’s event raised more than $25,000 and helped plant 6,000 fruit trees in Mozambique’s impoverished communities and at an orphanage in South Africa, organizers say. This year, they are aiming for more than $50,000 to plant trees in Brazil.

A+R, the lifestyle store owned by style and pop culture journalist Rose Apodaca (who is a former Los Angeles Times editor) and her husband, former film editor Andy Griffith, has opened a new shop at 171 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles. The new space is twice the size of their Abbot Kinney store in Venice and emphasizes furniture, lighting and rugs as well as the smaller home and personal furnishings that make up most of the Venice offerings.

Argentine menswear brand Etiqueta Negra is making its West Coast debut this week with shops at Bloomingdale’s at the Beverly Center and Fashion Valley in San Diego The line of men’s modern basics and tailored apparel is rooted in Argentina’s polo tradition and founder Federico Alvarez Castillo’s passion for rare private cars. The new shops are located on the sixth floor of the Beverly Center store, 8500 Beverly Blvd., and the first floor of the Fashion Valley Bloomingdale’s, 7057 Friars Road.

Beauty Collection, which has three locations in Southern California and an online store, has opened a pop-up outlet, Beauty Collection Annex, at the Tarzana Marketplace to sell discounted merchandise. The annex is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at 18517 Ventura, Blvd., Tarzana.

London hair salon Lucinda Ellery Consultancy has opened its first U.S. location at 9022 Burton Way, Beverly Hills. The salon specializes in working with women who are experiencing hair loss from a variety of conditions including alopecia, cancer and trichotillomania. The salon offers extension services and hair loss solutions. Appointments are available Monday through Friday and may be made by calling (866) 912-6932.

Planet Blue, Santa Monica, has a major sale planned Friday through Monday, with 50% discounts in the women’s store, plus all Blu Moon merchandise priced at $45 and all Blue Life priced at $35. In addition, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, jeans from brands including Paige Denim, J Brand, Hudson and Current + Elliott will be on sale for $50 each. The store is at 800 14th St., Santa Monica.

TRUNK SHOWS

Lingerie and loungewear label Unspoken plans a trunk show from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Luxe & Le Bra Lingerie, 363 N. Camden Dr., Beverly Hills. Cake and Champagne will be served.
