Rodarte for Target is set to launch

Share

Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy, based in Pasadena, are the next designers to collaborate with Target for its GO International collection. Rodarte fans should set the alarm for next Sunday morning when Rodarte for Target officially launches in stores and at Target online -- the limited-edition collections usually clear out well before the end of a month-long run.

Rodarte, the maiden name of the Mulleavys’ mom, has taken off since its debut during New York Fashion Week nearly five years ago. Fans can’t get enough of the sisters’ version of classic French couture featuring fragile spidery knits, hand-stitching, artistically treated fabrics, lacework and embroidery with a touch of goth. And neither can the fashion establishment, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which awarded the Mulleavys the Swarovski Emerging Designer award in 2008 and the Womenswear Designer of the Year award this year.

Rodarte for Target starts at $9.99 for cut-out knee-highs. Signature webby knit cardigans are $29, and a leopard-print jacket is $79.99. A shift dress with a sequined “rib cage” ($44.99) will be a coveted item. Other looks include a leopard-print shift dress ($44.99), lace cardigans ($29.99), a denim jacket with braided detail ($39.99) and a signature lace and tulle skirt ($29.99). Young women who enjoyed dressing gothic in high school could drag out the Doc Martens to wear with lace dresses ($39.99 to $49.99).

The sisters attribute the inspiration for the Rodarte for Target collection to the style of actresses Faye Dunaway in “Bonnie and Clyde,” Mia Farrow in “Rosemary’s Baby” and Ruth Gordon in “Harold and Maude.”
