Food truck alert: Sushi burritos and spicy tuna nachos from Jogasaki

It’s 12:32 p.m. on Wednesday, and there’s a growing crowd of people in the center of a parking lot in Burbank, surrounded by office buildings.

A bright spot glares in the middle of the commotion. It’s the fiery-orange paneled Jogasaki food truck, attracting a steady flow of hungry office dwellers.

“Is the 1A good?” a man wearing a button-down shirt and black slacks asks the man taking orders in the truck.

“Ha, it’s all good, boss,” he says.

The Jogasaki 1A is one of the truck’s signature sushi burritos. If you’re not familiar with the sushi burrito, before you start imagining a large flour tortilla stuffed with spicy tuna, avocado, imitation crab and salsa, let’s break down the concept for you. It’s a burrito-sized handroll stuffed with spicy salmon, soft-shell crab, barbecued eel and sushi rice, all wrapped in soy paper spotted with sesame seeds.

Then there’s the Popcorn Lobster, which comes with crab meat, avocado, cucumber and langostino tempura. If you’re really hung up on the burritos-need-to-be-wrapped-in-tortillas idea, the Shrimp Fiesta includes shrimp tempura, crab meat, avocado and cucumber in your choice of a tortilla or soy paper.

And what’s a burrito without a side of nachos? Jogasaki’s version involves a mound of nacho-flavored Doritos topped with spicy tuna, a couple slices of avocado and a drizzle of eel sauce. You’ll get past the initial confusion and find yourself licking a mixture of sticky eel sauce and Doritos cheese dust off your fingertips in no time.

If you’re in the mood for a taco, the salmon sashimi comes with pico de gallo, ponzu and yuzu dressing in a crunchy red taco shell.
