The Parish, the downtown gastropub helmed by chef Casey Lane, abruptly closed Monday, after Lane and his business partners “got an offer on the building that was too good to pass up,” LA Weekly reports.

The restaurant was not answering phone calls Wednesday, and its website is entirely blacked out.

Located in a wedge-shaped building at the southern tip of a triangular block on the edge of the Fashion District, the two-story purveyor of fish and chips, paneer-studded poutine and an Epoisse-oozing burger opened just last year.

“You can sit on the open triangular terrace ... gnawing on chicken wings and watching police cars and taxicabs screech from one one-way street to the other — it feels very much like New York’s Tribeca neighborhood circa 1985,” wrote L.A. Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold in a review.

This is the latest unfortunate washout for Lane, who is also executive chef at the Venice hot-spot the Tasting Kitchen, and his partners. Plans to open an Italian restaurant and pasta shop in the former Angeli Caffe space on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood never panned out.

Earlier this year, Parish quit its breakfast and lunch service and announced plans to expand its bar program, featuring a collaboration with drinks consultants Proprietors LLC, including a revolving cocktail menu and a new downstairs wine bar. But that was, as it turns out, a no-go.

The charming shuttered space leaves a void in a rapidly changing niche of downtown that recently has seen the opening of Terroni a block away and is home to restaurants such as Wood Spoon, Cafe Tiara and Pattern Bar.
