Renowned pianist Mitsuko Uchida and architect Dominique Perrault are among the winners of the 2015 Praemium Imperiale, Japan’s highest cultural honor, organizers announced Thursday.

The annual awards also include ballerina Sylvie Guillem, painter Tadanori Yokoo and sculptor Wolfgang Laib. The Praemium Imperiale honors will be presented at a ceremony in Tokyo on Oct. 21, and each laureate will receive 15 million yen ($124,000).

Established in 1989, the Praemium Imperiale recognizes achievements in five cultural categories: architecture, painting, sculpture, music and theater/film.

One of the world’s top piano interpreters of Mozart and Beethoven, Uchida has in recent years limited her public appearances, making her even more widely sought-after by top orchestras around the world.

French architect Perrault is known primarily for his imposing designs for the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. Fellow French compatriot Guillem recently announced her retirement from the world of dance, following a career that included the Paris Opera Ballet and Royal Ballet in London.

Organizers said winners are recognized for “their achievements, for the impact they have had internationally on the arts, and for their role in enriching the global community.”

Past laureates include Placido Domingo, Judi Dench, Anish Kapoor, Francis Ford Coppola, Philip Glass, Jean-Luc Godard, Stephen Sondheim and David Hockney.
